Students are to choose their own silent reading book. They will read this book at school and at home. Students are expected to read every night. They should read for at least 10-15 minutes. Books students choose to read should be on their reading level. Students will take a test to determine their reading level during the second week of school. Students will then know their "lexile" or reading level. Books should also be at least 100 pages in length. Students are expected to read three books each quarter. Students will record their reading on a reading contract that is to be signed by both student and parent. This contract will be handed in at the end of each quarter. For more information on choosing books based on "lexile," visit www.lexile.com.
